It was established in 1916 by Madan Mohan Malaviya. The university's main campus spread over 13,000 acres (53 km2) was built on land donated by the Kashi Naresh, the hereditary ruler of Banaras ("Kashi" being an alternative name for Banaras or Varanasi). The Banaras Hindu University, South campus, spread over 2,700 acres (11 km2). BHU is organised into 6 institutes and 14 faculties (streams) and about 140 departments. As of 2017, the total student enrollment at the university is 27,359 coming from 48 countries. It has over 75 hostels for resident students. Lanka gate is an entrance gate of BHU. Lanka is a place in Varanasi in front of the BHU (Banaras Hindu University). It plays a role of real Lanka what was at the time of Ravan while Dashahara mela helds in the Ramnagar. This place is most crowded place in the Varanasi because of the Chauraha in front of the great university as well as main entry to the Banaras Hindu University. MRAUK U.
Stunning Mrauk U, Myanmar.
This so “peaceful” dawn landscape of Mrauk U with the pagodas and the lush nature is a stone’s throw away from Rohingya’s villages where ethnic cleansing takes place. So eerie!

My son Joel watching tv with my youngest daughter Dahlia vying for his attention. A photo I particularly like, including in the mix Jasmine, our beloved cocker spaniel almost lost in the folds of the leather sofa. We lost her about a year and a half ago and life just hasn’t been the same without her. East London, 2013.

From my photo project

From my photo project "Women of Pankisi Gorge" Pankisi Gorge, as well as entire Georgia, was heavily affected by the economic and political crises of the last decades … and even more so. Pankisi has become the “major subject” of local and international media in the last decades. It was bombed several times by Russia, high profile raids have been carried out, and recently the Gorge attracted the attention of the media because of the alleged connection of several Pankisian individuals with the “Islamic State” (ISIS). For the time being,  there is no official information on how many Pankisians are fighting in the extremist military groups aboard. The women who live in the villages near Pankisi Gorge are almost isolated from the rest of the world. This isolation prevents them from economic and social development and it does not allow them to make decisions independently. Because of the religious and cultural customs that exist in the Gorge, children stay with their father in case of a divorce, which makes divorce am extremely rare occasion in Pankisi.  Most of the women obey traditions tacitly. They give birth and raise their children, but they later lose their decision making power involving their children and they are not even asked about their opinion when the children go to war. The locals say that in the older times, no man could go to a war without a blessing from his mother. Everything is changing in Pankisi and the beautiful and hospitable Pankisian women are slowly disappearing in the shadow of the chador. They are slowly becoming alienated from the rest of the world.

GJAKOVA.
Majestic Gjakova, Kosovo.
The renaissance of Gjakova old town that was heavily damaged during the 1999 war and reconstructed in a traditional style how it was before. It's amazing strolling around the wooden Old Bazaar, the oldest in Kosovo. A secret gem!

"Did you vote?" (Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid, Spain) (05-2018). - It is incredible the power of influence of the United States over the rest of countries. Especially from the Westerners. It would be almost impossible to achieve global monitoring of the decisions of another country and its citizens. This confirms that despite the emergence of new economic powers the social influence of the United States in the rest of the globe is unique. Then you have voted or not??
