The past few days have been crappy- felt like I wasn't doing enough, was constantly questioning and self doubting and its ironic because the number 1 question I get is 'how are you so happy all the time!? I’m not going to lie - I am feeling a little thick at the moment! 😬💃🏼 I have been eating at maintenance/a slight calorie surplus for a while now and training glutes 3 x per week as per my goal of increasing muscle mass, and I am very happy with the results so far 👌🍑 . Ladies (and guys) - if your goal is to build muscle in your glutes/legs - consistently being in a calorie deficit isn’t going to get you closer to your goals. For the body to actually build more muscle it requires a lot of energy. You need to be giving the body more energy than it burns. . Here are some other points to consider: ✅Glute activation - Are you ensuring that your glutes are firing effectively before you start training? Can you feel your glutes during each exercise? By performing glute activation exercises at the start of your workout you will allow them to perform as intended and prevent the other muscle groups in the lower body from taking over. . ✅Training frequency - How many times a week are you training your glutes? Do you include a glute only day in your training schedule? The glutes are actually the largest muscle group in the body and can handle higher training volumes. You should be training glutes at least 2-3 times a week for optimal results. . ✅Progressive overload - Are you tracking your training sessions? Are you increasing volume over time (weight x sets x reps)? You need to do more in order to allow progress to occur. . ✅Exercise selection - Are you performing compound and isolation exercises? You should include a variety of exercises that hit the glutes from all angles at different rep ranges. . So when it comes to building muscle, don’t be afraid to EAT MORE and make sure you’re training effectively 💪🏼

A bit of active recovery today so focusing on the smaller muscle groups and a bit more specialized training. Grip training is my new favorite cause there’s no such thing as too strong a grip. Not that mine is very strong. 75kg (165kbs) of a 1inch round handle and the 1 inch beam is absolutely humbling. Only 22.5kg (49lbs) and its a nightmare to hold on to. Sugar intake has dropped over recent years, while obesity is on the rise. What leads to obesity is a imbalance of energy consumed vs calories expended. . Take a look at this graph by Stephan Guyenet, a science consultant with a background in neuroscience and obesity research, based on the latest data published by the CDC (2015) on the prevalence of obesity in the US. As you can clearly see, the results of the report show that, despite US sugar consumption (g/person/day) DECREASING year after year since the early 2000’s, rates of obesity still continue to INCREASE. . This suggests that there is far more to the story of obesity/weight gain than just sugar. Looking into causes of eating too many calories, would be a good starting point. So for example, analyse the following . -Dietary Adherence -phschological factors -physiological factors -Habits . Once you can understand why you are eating too much then you can get a better grasp of controlling calories. . Perfect way to start my Monday with this yummy Lemon Blueberry Oatmeal Bread . Sending your way only positive vibes 🌟Happy Monday!!!!! 🙌🏻 . . . . 🌟👩🏻‍🍳Do this : 🌟 . 6 egg whites 1/4 cup Oats 1 tbsp chia seeds mixed with 3 tbsp water (let it sit in the fridge for 30 minutes) 1 tsp Ceylon Cinnamon. 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tbsp lemon zest 1 Devotion Nutrition Lemon Meringue Flex Flavors or Stevia. Beat egg whites until stiff peak form. Add your mix of chia seeds, lemon juice, lemon zest, flex flavors and cinnamon. Stir. Fold carefully with oats. Pour your batter into silicone loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. For blueberry jam, simple microwave 1/4 cup blueberries for 45 seconds 😘. Lil’ arm and shoulder progress courtesy of a higher-protein diet + more focus on upper body development 🙌 Never in a million years did I ever think I’d want to see growth in my arms! I always thought skinner arms = better arms. Picking up some weights and adopting a better attitude towards food has done your girl some gooood. Gotta lot of progress to be made, but I think in order to keep motivated, you gotta look back every once in a while and appreciate how far you’ve come.
