Yes, I am aware I can't sing well but I wanted to post something positive and productive

Music used to be such a huge part of my life. I would play for hours everyday and loved it so much. Depression took it from Me and I haven't properly played and sang and enjoyed it for 3 years. I plan to start it up again, hopefully get back to the level I was at back then. For now I'll settle for just using it as an escape even if I'm bad at it .

I went horse riding on the beach yesterday ☺️ something I’d never have been able to do if I hadn’t chosen to recover, if I was still in hospital. I wouldn’t have the strength to control the horse, I wouldn’t have the strength to pull myself up to even sit on the horse. It’s days like this that I thank my body for how strong it is despite everything I have put it through. It may not seem a big victory but to me it is massive. I can do fun sports, I can have fun. During your road to recovery it is okay to have bad days.  It is okay not to have a perfect success story.  It is okay if you stumble and go back to an old bad habit.  PAUSE;  Try to learn what triggered you and make an actual plan how to cope with it (journaling helps/talking about it with someone you trust). What is not okay is giving up in moving forward.

Exercise to be fit, to have the energy to run around with your grandchildren. Do it to retain muscle mass and delay osteoporosis. Feel the adrenaline and endorphins feeding your brain and combatting stress. Do it to keep your heart alive and blood pumping.

Weil sie gestern sooo gut waren gab es heute gleich nochmal Sommerrollen. Wie konnte ich bisher nur darauf verzichten... sooo lecker 😋 dabei habe ich auch gleich die frisch geerntete Beete verarbeitet und ein letztes Stück Rindfleisch, dass ich von einem befreundeten Bio Bauern bekommen habe wurde nun auch zubereitet. Actually liking and loving yourself takes time and is so worth the effort. 
I take myself out on dates! Just me and I do something I love - today it’s the theatre. 
Highly recommend doing something special just for you. Don’t feel guilty about giving yourself some time - you deserve it and need it.

BAD POETRY DAY ✨ So apparently today is bad poetry day, so I want to share my FAVOURITE POEM with you all. Up until last year I didn’t read a book let alone poetry, but this moves me so much every time I read it. The way Emily Kingsley portrays pregnancy and dealing with disability is just beautiful, I’m sure everyone can relate to this in some way. ❤️ WELCOME TO HOLLAND ❤️

BAD POETRY DAY ✨ So apparently today is bad poetry day, so I want to share my FAVOURITE POEM with you all. Up until last year I didn’t read a book let alone poetry, but this moves me so much every time I read it. Aug18: I’ve got some big decisions to make re: rowing.🤔 quick update on that; I was going to find out in Poland if I had made the GB program, this all started with 8,000 candidates across the UK and they had it down to 80. I wasn’t going to open the email while we where competing but after the loss to czech in the semis i thought the day couldn’t get worse if I hadn’t made the grade, so siting in an ice bath with my teammates I opened it and it was a Yes!!! Only 3 had been selected across the whole of London and south east. But confusingly is a “conditional offer” which means I’ve started on the program and have been given some specific training then in 2 months I’ll have my first % progress test where they will see if I have improved by the right % that will show if I have the right mindset, body composition and genetic makeup to react to the training correctly, only 15% of people make it past the first %test so obviously I’m working my arse of for it at the moment. When I got back from Poland some coaches came to talk to my parents about what this all means and what they want to do if I pass in November and chose to commit to this, there looking at 2020 Tokyo Olympics but where clear that its not about my enjoyment whatsoever it’s about getting results on the world stage as that’s what funds the sport. The next 3 years will be tough ill spend a lot of time cold, wet, in pain, injured, tired with no social life but If i want it then the Olympic dream is there. Which leaves me in an awkward spot with lax as I’m potentially looking at my first junior world championship next summer in a sport I’ve worked 10 years for and been on such a roller coaster with. There's no way I could balance the 12 rowing sessions a week (23+ when I leave school next year) and the 14 hours a week I already train for lax and let’s not forget my Alevels!! It would be such a risk to give up what I know I love just because some people in a lab from a sport I’ve never done saw my stats and start flashing team GB in my face. Anyways not getting ahead of myself only 15% will get past the first %test so I’ll think more when I know. Either way it’s tricky but a privileged place to be

It’s 1 in 4 people you know. 25% of us have a problem with our mental health and too many more have a problem with that.

This is a photo of me back in the winter when I was just dyingggg for sunshine, warmth, beach days, parties, and spending time with my friends. Nearing the end of summer I looked back and felt awful because none of that happened. I spent a lot of this summer alone, at home, and generally not feeling 100%. I went through a breakup of a long term relationship, lost a good friend, and got fired from one of my jobs. Sounds pretty bad, right? ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
WRONG.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
This past May at a physical I was told by my doctor that I wasn’t healthy. Not physically, but mentally. Having struggled with anxiety and depression in the past a lightbulb clicked! She was right I was depressed and I didn’t even seen it happen. I let myself sink lower and lower and believed it to be my new normal. Life was boring and sad. My relationships broke down. I began hating my job. I could barely get out of bed in the morning. I no longer had hobbies or passions. This was a MAJOR problem and I decided at that moment that I was going to do everything in my power to turn my life around. No longer being comfortable in my misery, but taking active steps to fight my way out of the fog of my depression and anxiety. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
HOWEVER, I could barely find the motivation to get up in the morning, how was I possibly going to tackle this monster? 🐍🦖🦕🐊🦈🐉☠️👻👺👹🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️
A shift in perspective. Recognizing that even the tiniest step forward is a step forward. And not allowing myself to go backward. Not even that tiniest step. And now looking back at this summer, that from the outside seemed so boring and downright bad, I can actually see how far all these tiny tiny steps have taken me. 🌸🌼🌻🌹🌷💐🌺🥀🌻🌼🌸💐🌷
I am far from arriving at my destination in the mental health world. I still have bad days. But looking back to where I was a few months ago to where I am now give me so much hope. And I want to share this hope with you, because I have found myself in incredibly dark places thinking nothing will ever get better, but it’s not true. One day at a time, it really does get better.

Signs of unhealthy anxiety⛈: Panicking about things that might not even happen, Regular tight chest, snappy or abnormal behaviour, unnatural eating patterns (binging or not eating at all), panic attacks. The list goes on... Signs of healthy anxiety🌤: tensing up during a situation where we need to be more alert. Otherwise feeling happy and calm in most situations.

I'm writing this sat at the airport, reflecting back to how ill I was when I decided to run away to Greece aged 19. I couldn't bare life in the UK, so I went away for a summer. I spent most of it intoxicated and binge eating on crap. But I did learn on my return that none of my worries existed, and I could actually cope with life. I can do big things 😎

Fast forward to now... And I'm sat chilled as anything cross legged on the airport floor reading my book and writing this post ready to head off for some solo travel in Croatia. I have never been one to let out how I’m feeling, definitely not when I was in active addiction and very little in the 5 years I’ve been clean. In the last 2 months that’s slowly changing. I’ve more open with my husband, my family and close friends. Yesterday was my first day back to “real life” after completing 2 months of partial hospitalization for PTSD/trauma. I have learned a lot but still have work to do. I am grateful for the skills I have learned, my treatment team and my peers. Unfortunately exposure therapy was too intense for me and the box was opened but I am left without a lid. I will be searching for other options. I have learned that PTSD is not an illness but rather an injury. Unfortunately it is invisible to those around you. Please remember to have compassion for all people, you never know what battles they are fighting big or small. Coping skill #4:  Light, light, light!!!!!! Our area battles Seattle, Washington for the least sun and highest depression rate.  Those of us who experience SAD (seasonal affective disorder) start to fret around this time of year bc we know what looms ahead... darkness!  I highly recommend using a light box.  I have a very expensive one that was covered by my insurance.  The one pictured I bought at a garage sale for 5.00!  You sit with it not directly in your eyes for a half hour a day... not right before bed.  I love mine and it works for me.  Everyone is different.  If all else fails, you can go tanning but there are health risks involved.  For me, it is worth it.  Put this in your tool bag!!! Be prepared!  #mentalhealthawareness #stopthestigma #thebutterflyproclamation

DIVERSITY 
This photo is an analogy to how diversity adds to the beauty and excitement of our lives.  Each person we meet on our life journey is unique and beautiful, regardless of their culture, age, gender, religion and lifestyle.  Appreciating this uniqueness rather than judging negatively is a healthier and more empathetic way of treating others.

To truly understand others, we also need to be truthful about some of the hardships, prejudice, indifference and oppression faced by many people. It saddens me to hear the stories of bigotry and disrespect, even hate.  Many people still fear and have disdain for others, without taking the time to know or understand them.  It would be wonderful if the world was safer and more accepting of diversity and respectful of the rights of others.
