Two of one of the greatest musicians of all time, Dimebag Darrell and John Lennon, died the same day, but just 24 years apart. John was killed in 1980 (37 years ago) by Mark Chapman and Dime was killed in 2004 (13 years ago) by Nathan Gale. The most interesting thing about this is the fact that there are some rather interesting correlations between them. 1. Both men were guitarists, 2. Both band names have the same number of letters, 3. Both band names are alternate spellings of animal names, 4. Both men were killed by crazed fans, 5. They were both shot and killed with a handgun. Both men were great artists in their own, no matter how different they were. John Lennon was great in The Beatles and of course in his solo career and Dime was great in both Pantera and Damageplan. They may not be here with us no more but just like what I said about Randy Rhoads, their music is still available to listen to and we cherish their work to the fullest no matter what! R.I.P. to both Dimebag Darrell (1966-2004) and John Lennon (1940-1980) ✌🤘 #DimebagDarrell #Pantera #GrooveMetal #ThrashMetal #HeavyMetal #80sMetal #90sMetal #Metal #ThisDayInMetal #JohnLennon #TheBeatles #ClassicRock #Rock #Experimental #ThisDayInRock

Today would have been the 50th birthday of Layne Staley, former frontman and singer of Alice in Chains, my favorite "Grunge" band (they are not really Grunge in my opinion). Layne sadly passed away in 2002 due to a heroin overdose. Happy birthday Layne 🤘 #AliceInChains #LayneStaley #AlternativeMetal #HeavyMetal #90sMetal #Metal #Grunge #ThisDayInMetal #ThisDayInRock

38 years ago, the world of Rock N Roll lost a legend, and that legend was Bon Scott of AC/DC. Bon Scott died of alcohol poisoning in the back of a Renault 5 owned by a friend of Scott named Alistair Kinnear. Scott was laid to sleep in Kinnear's back car after a night of heavy drinking at a club. He was found dead later by Kinnear and was reported to the authorities. He was only 33 years old. Shortly after Scott's death, AC/DC were considering breaking up but with the thought that Bon would have wanted them to continue, and with the encouragement of Scott's family to continue, the band soon hired Brian Johnson, who was previously of Geordie, a Glam Rock band. That same year (1980), AC/DC recorded one of Rock's greatest and most successful albums, "Back In Black". It was one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Rock, and Bon would most definitely be proud of them. Malcolm is most likely jamming with Bon in the afterlife... :') R.I.P. #vinylworship #vinylcollector #metalcollector #billsteer #metalcollection #thisdayinrock #vinylcollection #vinylporn #riseaboverecords

On this day (June 5, 2003), Metallica released their 8th album "St.Anger". It's been noted for it's raw production, absence of guitar solos, & Ulrich's "steely" snare percussion work. Happy Birthday to this underrated album(^.^)/🎸🤘🏻 . . . . . . . #Metallica #StAnger #2003 #HeavyMetal #AlternativeMetal #JamesHetfield #KirkHammett #LarsUlrich #BobRock #ThisDayInMusic #ThisDayInRock #ReleasedOnThisDay #MetalAlbum

On this day in PUNK HISTORY the SEX PISTOLS played thier legendary show in 1976 at a little club called 'Lesser Free Trade Hall' in Manchester spawning the British Punk movement and the Post Punk movement soon to follow in as little as two years later. Johnny Rotten,Steve Jones,Paul Cook and Sid Vicious, under the management of the Svengali Malcolm McLaren took no prisoners in their ripping, shredding song attacks. In the audience were members of bands to be started by the fire the Pistols created. Members Of bands like The Damned,The Fall,JoyDivision which became New Order, The Buzzcocks,Simply Red and a young teenage boy who goes by just Morrisey started the Smiths soon after seeing what he called 'the turning point in my life'. By the time the Pistols returned to London it seemed everybody in Manchester started a band.. And two weeks after their return a little band called The Clash had formed.. Which became a turning point in my life... So I guess I have six degrees of Morrisey!! 😝😝😝 #LONGLIVEPUNK 💥💥💥 #sexpistols #punk #theclash #thisdayinrock

47 years ago, the Welsh underdogs Budgie released their superb self titled debut album! This album contains such heavy headbangers like “Guts”, “Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman” (strange title eh), “All Night Petrol” and “Homicidal Suicidal”. This album was produced by Rodger Bain, who was the producer of Black Sabbath’s first three albums and Judas Priest’s Rocka Rolla! Compared to the other albums by Budgie, this one is noticeably more heavier than the others, and it contains a very similar vibe to the albums by Black Sabbath. Just like Sabbath, this album contains some killer riffs provided by the ever so underrated Tony Bourge! Many of his riffs here are just screaming Sabbath in this album. “Guts” is a song that can definitely come off as a Sabbath song but only if you forget Burke’s singing lol. Not only that but the wah-wah riff honestly kinda reminds me of Electric Funeral xD. It is METAL as fuck, and you just can’t resist head banging to it or to the whole album really! Even though Burke Shelley denies ever being influenced by Sabbath, I’m pretty damn sure Tony Bourge was influenced by Tony Iommi due to how heavy and similar sounding Bourge’s guitar tone (in this album) is to Iommi’s guitar tone! This album has honestly got to be one of the most underrated Metal albums of the past half century. It really is a forgotten classic in the Metal world. It sure gets a lot of praise and attention now but back then, it was rather overlooked (just like the band themselves), which is why I consider it to be a forgotten classic. If you listen to bands like Alice In Chains or Soundgarden and look back at this album, you will end up hearing lots of similarities between this album and those two bands. Hell, even Soundgarden covered “Homicidal Suicidal”! This album really was one of the main pioneers of Heavy Metal along with Sabbath’s first two albums, Deep Purple’s In Rock, Sir Lord Baltimore’s Kingdom Come, etc. Happy 47th Birthday Budgie! #Budgie #BudgieBand #BurkeShelley #TonyBourge #RayPhillips #HeavyMetal #HardRock #ProtoDoom #70sMetal #MetalMusic #EarlyHeavyMetal #Metal #ThisDayInMetal #ThisDayInRock

42 years ago, Rainbow released their masterpiece, which is Rising! This album contains six songs, which are “Tarot Woman”, “Run With The Wolf”, “Starstruck”, “Do You Close Your Eyes”, “Stargazer” and “A Light In The Black”. While all the songs in this album are all great, the songs that really stand out the most are “Stargazer” and “A Light In The Black”. “Stargazer” is about an obsessed Wizard who enslaves and forces a large amount of people to build a tower for him so that he can fly. When the tower is finally completed, the Wizard climbs to the top of the tower and jumps off the tower hoping he would fly but instead of flying, he falls down to his death. The sequel “A Light In The Black” deals with the people immediately after the Wizard’s death. The people feel like they’ve lost all purpose in life since they wasted so much time building the tower but it is when they see the “light in the black” where they regain hope, and they finally go back home. This was the second album by Rainbow, and this one absolutely kills! Everything about it is just amazing! It’s a Metal masterpiece! From Dio’s vocal work to Ritchie Blackmore’s guitar work, it’s all flawless! Jimmy Bain, Tony Carey and Cozy Powell all do justice in this album as well! “Stargazer” and “A Light In The Black are absolute masterpieces. Both songs are undoubtedly one of the greatest Metal songs of all time, it’s no question. Happy 42nd Birthday Rising! #RainbowBand #RonnieJamesDio #Dio #RitchieBlackmore #JimmyBain #TonyCarey #CozyPowell #HeavyMetal #NeoclassicalMetal #70sMetal #MetalMusic #Metal #ThisDayInMetal #ThisDayInRock
