Das Wintertraining hat begonnen 😍
Nach ca. 6 Wochen Training nach Lust und Laune (und Krankheit) heißt es diese Woche zurück in einen Trainingsrhythmus und eine geregelte Ernährung zu finden. Wir haben lange überlegt wie und wohin es 2019 gehen soll und nun ca. 11 Monate Zeit für ein neues Triathlon-Abenteuer 😋 bald dazu mehr... Was steht diese Woche so auf deiner To-Do-Liste? 
Ich selbst schreibe mir diese kleinen Helferlisten für Tage, an denen ich viel zu tun habe und immer für die aktuelle Woche. Mir hilft es Überblick zu bewahren, zu priorisieren und weiterzugehen. Das Abhaken von erledigten Dingen gibt dir Bestätigung und hält deinen Kopf frei für wichtige Dinge. 😊

A bike position is never static! This pic captures me slightly off my seat for a change of pace/power and adjustment. I was reminded today by an athlete I coach about the necessity to ride in a variety of positions when training! // Rarely, I mean rarely, do I ride aero indoors. And if I do, it’s for 2-3 minutes a time.  Why? Riding indoors no matter what trainer you’re on is NOT like riding outside. You have zero change in wind, movement of the bike. I ride in a variety of positions (a lot upright!) to prevent back issues - fallacy you need to get “use to” aero when indoors, and also I change it up to ensure different power change/pace when I ride. // In racing, as depicted here, I gain power and change in different positions. // #aeroainteverything #iracelikeagirl #ironman #triathlon #givesyouwings #lymediseaseawareness #bikeonscott #rideshimano 📸: @kevinfickling @rideshimano

There is no straightforward answer to this question. There are too many variables that determine how quickly your chain will wear. However, if you can keep your chain clean, and avoid cross chaining, and shift with adequate cadence, your chain and the rest of your drivetrain will last longer than if you don’t.  Personally, I swap out my chain at the beginning of the season and then again in July.  If you really want to stay on top of chain wear I would highly recommend buying a chain checker. It’s worth the investment! .

It’s a double medal 🏅 Monday for me!! I have love the Jesse Owens Jog because it promotes diversity in long distance running. I want to see all people love running/ walking or jogging as much as I do. The great part is experiencing this race with my son each year and I hope my daughters will want to participate too!

My next medal will be seen as my greatest PR and goal accomplishment medal. I worked my butt off for this as I posted about my goals last year and this was the final piece to the puzzle. I had an awesome experience with my friends and it was remarkable to see my friend finish her first Marathon! Happy Medal Monday everyone! #stongrunner

This week I'll be posting meal ideas (calorie/macro information included) composed entirely of ingredients from @aldi_ireland 
Today's dinner: 2x salmon fillets, 1/2 pack of basmati rice, and a half pack of their green vegetable medley

817 calories total
Protein: 58g
Carbohydrates: 44g
Fats: 39g

Quite a long, active day so this is a high calorie meal with plenty of carbohydrates, that suits my goals and works well within the parameters of my daily nutrition. If you're a little more focused on lower calories, you have the option of removing either one if the salmon fillets or one of the carb sources (vegetables or rice). Total prep time was just 20 mins.

I have totally given up on Strava, and I couldn't be happier about it. I haven't synced my data since the beginning of July and I genuinely think it has improved my relationship with running and with myself. I'm competitive, a control freak, a perfectionist and someone who's always paranoid that I'm 'just not good enough'. Platforms like Strava bring out the worst in me - I compare myself to other people and worry that I'm not doing enough. But I also have that parallel worry that people might look at my training sessions and be negatively impacted by them - perhaps they too think they're not running long, hard or fast enough? I'm also trying to be a little more careful about what I post to Instagram and stories, I'm not convinced you need to know how far or how fast I'm running. The fact is I know that the training I'm putting in now (and the fuelling and rest that goes hand in hand with that) means I will turn up on race day confident that I have done the prep that will get me the results that I want. We're all running our own race and we don't need to feel guilty about what other people are doing...so the next time you log into Strava, or see someone posting their pace on a photo - try not to focus on it too much, instead focus on your own journey and think about your own goals; don’t fall into that dark hole of comparison. ..

Today was the first pool session. It was a CSS Test. Including warm up and cool down i swam 1700m (1860yard). So my CSS is 2:25 minutes per 100m. If I can handle that speed over 3,8km I should arrive at T1 after 1h 32min. The answer is simple: do you get to hold onto a wall and take a breath ever 25 in a race? Nope. A flip-turn allows you to swim continuously and uninterrupted. It will teach you how to maintain speed, increase your lung capacity, set you up for success for the next 25, and make you faster in the pool! Video and editing by the wonderful @heatherrosescott (THANK YOU! 🙏🏼). P. S. These are drills that we would do at @uclaswimanddive to perfect our turns and go back to the basics!

Keys are - chin tucked, and arms wrapped tightly! ✅[STEP TWO: OPEN STREAMLINE] In the middle of the pool take two - three strokes, somersault until you feet touch the water and then launch your body into a tight streamline so that you end up facing the sky (hardest step!) ✅[STEP 3: THE LANDING] Start mid pool and swim into the wall. Flip turn (the timing/distance will take practice) and stay “stuck” on the wall. Key notes 📝 : feet should be facing UP, feet should be about shoulder width apart, and you should be in a squat position. Do not push off! ✅[STEP 4: FULL FLIP-TURN] From mid pool swim into the wall and do a full flip-turn. KEY 🔑 : you must push off on your back and rotate to your front through the streamline. You probably won’t get as far as I do but aim to get to the flags. Bonus: don’t breath your first stroke off the wall!!! Let me know if you have any questions! 💥 🏊‍♂️💪🏻👍🏼

When you have so much to do that you don’t know what to do, do you just keep pushing forward and work work work to get it all done, or do you just leave it for later and go ride your bike? 🤔

I only rode my bike 94 miles this last week and I’m bothered by the fact it’s not at least an even 100. I can’t make that same mistake this week! 🙄

Happy Monday everyone!! 😳 - To be honest, I’m not really psyched about this week. More to come but the Hope For Crohn's was quite an adventure from the fog to a run that went from path to trail to beach. .
The smile on my face while 🏃 captures everything about finishing my first triathlon especially one with a mission so close to my ♥️, donating funds to send kids with IBD to summer camp.

The last six years since being diagnosed worth #crohns has been spent in ERs, hospital rooms, surgery centers and ICUs. The last six months include things I never would have believed I could accomplish before.

There is not just hope for people with Crohn's, there is an awaiting transformation and an invitation to experience life with a sense of wonder and gratitude most people won't ever experience.

Side Plank Variations!
🏋️‍♀️🏃🏾‍♂️
Whether you are a Runner or a Weightlifter (maybe you are both) this is a staple exercise for your weekly routine.

This exercise challenges the obliques (abs) and your glutes (the little ones) which are vital to your success as an athlete wanting to train pain free.  Additionally it works these muscles in the frontal plane which is often overlooked in our training.

Hit these multiple times weekly. 3-4 sets on each side for 30 seconds or for reps until fatigue.🔥
