These women inspire me to keep working and these kinds of people are what makes the Powerlifting Australia community so freaking amazing. Shout out to the head ref on the day @billieasprey, seeing her smile encouragingly before and after every lift definitely made the platform less intimidating!

This was my 5th Powerlifting Australia comp in the last 2 years and my last for 2018. With my next comp set for April 2019 I am ready to dig deep and get back to training. Progress is never linear, increasing strength is a long term game and something that I continue to work hard at every day. Although I wish some things went a little differently on the day I am super happy to walk away with a new 2.5kg Deadlift PB!

#Rx on this one this morning may not seem like much of an achievement, especially seeing as though it took me 35 minutes to finish, but for me this is a huge milestone. Not only have I never managed 300 #doubleunders in a wod before, but after injuring my knee TWICE this year doing double unders and being told I needed a knee replacement, this is a major #win #keeponkeepingon

Back at it today. First real workout since my comp. Everything felt pretty good and the strength definitely felt solid. Time to rebuild!! Did 5x5 squats with the SSB, shown are my final 2 sets 410 and 430...followed with some 100 rep accessories...should be good and sore by tomorrow...

There’s 2 types of athletes, those who get injured from pushing themselves, and those whose get injured because they don’t revise their movements when necessary. I’d prefer to be the former. 66 on squats
73 on bench and
71 on deadlifts
My speed on squats and pec failure on bench letting us down a tad but overall we didn't do too shabby a job methinks. Thanks Andre.

Lately I’ve been working online with Powerlifting specific coach @tombro7 from PTC on the Gold Coast.

It’s great to have my form on the big 3 analysed and critiqued each week from another coaches eye.

The weights have been comfortable to begin with allowing me to focus in on my technique to and develop better movement patterns. This video shows 127.5kg x 8

Here’s 3 big things I’ve been focusing on when deadlifting:

#
1️⃣ Stronger Brace - one thing I’ve learnt from working with a powerlifting specific coach is I wasn’t bracing hard enough. Treat 8 reps like 8 singles and try to get as much air as possible down into your stomach and brace as hard as you fucking can. 
#
2️⃣ Get your Lats on Hard! - Squeeze the absolute 💩 out of your lats, depressing your shoulder blades before every rep 
#

3️⃣ Dropping hips lower, and then pushing the ground away like a leg press. 
Having longer arms has allowed me to to get away with starting a deadlift with my hips quite high. Lately I’ve been working on dropping my hips lower, and getting some quad drive off the floor which is already paying dividends.

Dino Toci Best Lifter Female QLD CAPO Deadlift Only 2018 Trophy. I’m honored to have received this trophy because of the meaningful history behind the name engraved on it. Dino Toci is one of Australia’s powerlifting legends, lifting in the early 1980’s to 1990’s. He made powerlfiting history by being the first person to pull a 800 pound (890lb/363.5kg) total in an Australian competition. This was the first year this competition in QLD awarded overall trophies with a piece of history attached to them, which also makes it a little more special. It was a pleasure to have been referred by him and to have met him. I’m grateful to have experienced this with my fellow team mate Sam @itssambo_88. #teamopc #dinotoci #powerliftinghistory. 🏋🏻‍♀️

An unexpected outcome for today’s CAPO National Deadlift Comp. 1st Place Open Women’s U56kg Class and Overall Female Champion for 2018. 🥇🏆

I had zero expectations going into this meet as I didn’t prep for this comp, I had no idea where my strength was at and Ive had a rough week of being unwell with Bali Belly followed by an unexpected visit to the dentist. I had mixed views about doing it until coach said you can either do your 1RM DL testing in the gym or at this comp. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Managed 127.5kg / 281lb for my 3rd Lift followed by 130kg /  286lb for my 4th. Not a comp PB but I gained 5kg on my deadlift from last years deadlift comp and being 2kg lighter in BW. Form was a little off but I was surprised how fast that weigh went up once off the ground. 😳

7/9 today with a equal PB on bench and a 2.5kg PB on deadlifts! I am super happy with today’s efforts and with how I handled myself under the pressures and I am so lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing and inspiring people. I am in this sport for the long haul, not every comp is going to go 100% how I’d like and that’s okay because it’s within these struggles and failed attempts that the real growth happens.

I am beyond excited to continue this journey next year alongside all these amazing people.

My head coach this morning told me I’m going to have the upper body of a demon 💪🏼😈 and it wasn’t until I was driving home that I remembered he’s an assistant strength coach at the Melbourne Footy club... so now I’m wondering which variety of demon he was referring to 🤣😆 Pretty good news from Physio yesterday. Because I’ve been doing “pre-hab”, I’m in a perfect place for recovering from surgery next week. Can return to gym for upper body whenever I feel upto it. Getting back on a bike (with no resistance) will depend on how quickly I get my knee flexion back, maybe as soon as 3-4 days! And potentially a version of a squat in just 1 week! Slightly dramatic isn't it? Well this is how sore I am today!
But I'm not complaining I love it ♥️
They are usually lot of things that I do for soreness here are a few tips!
- Stretch and Foam Roll ! A lot !
- Eat well after the intense workout ( good amount of protein and carbs)
- Drink drink drink!
- If you have to skip a workout don't hesitate - Have a great night of sleep
There is no secret, all of the above will help you recover and grow!

I decided to go out hard and see how long I could hold the pace, all my steady state cardio seems to be paying off in that it has helped me realise I can keep going further than I used to think I could before taking a breather. The more I work in a state of exhaustion, the more I can work when I am feeeling exhausted. Logically easy to realise, but the body needs to know it realistically.

School holidays start today! Smashed a session at gym, over 600 calories burnt while the kids slept 💪🏼 Physio today, can’t wait to get a good idea of the recovery process for after my surgery next week. Tonight consisted of yet another 5km #row then 5km on the bike (i have to build up my endurance for #crossfit, learn to work when I am exhausted) and then took them tired legs down for some good #oldfashioned #hacksquats (worked up to 3 plates a side x 8) and then finally a few sets of #unilateral #legcurls because #mustdolegs #workyourweakness #fitness #beyourbest #winning #pushyourself #strongisstrong #getthroughit #grit #keeponkeepingon @hd_labs_apparel @hdlaboratories @rumbleandhum @cftv_rsa

All three of my squats from this past weekend. I made a big jump from my opener but everything was moving so smoothly I knew I had it in me. Even my final I feel like I had another 10-15 in the tank but that's ok, couldn't be happier with how these moved and I'm stoked for what another 6 mo of training can do for me. Think I can add 100lbs by June???? 🤔

Few months ago I twigged a nerve in my chest squatting 290 and pretty much lost all feeling in left side of my chest/arm first thing that came to mind was that my ticker ❤ was playing up. So after a shit tone  of test and in and out of hospital I was given the all clear to lift s*** came in sloppy with my lifts missed all my deads and didn't bring my soft suit on the day. Still a good day lifting with all the @house_of_power_au  team and lifting with my coach @maoribeast ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

So I competed with the big boys on the weekend, if you follow my training you would know that this prep was one of my worst to date. For just over three years now this place has been home, this is where I go to be, and to get, better, not just physically but mentally too. There are extremely few people that I have trusted with my training in my life, as a matter of fact I dont even need a full hand to count them all, I have always done my own training programmes, but these people have full reign over what I do and quite honestly, they are doing a terrific job of it, and they're all as motivating AF to boot.

A great way to end a Max Effort session. Battle rope with 2 plates + squat + Romanian deadlift to target forearms, hamstrings, quads, and the lower back. 3 sets x 10 reps. Heavy as possible. .

@marisa.amara I can go for days bragging about how proud I am to have seen this happen. 
Image this folks 8 ish weeks out from a competition that you need to get a class 1 total in so you can qualify for the LA Fit Expo and this competition was the last chance before the cutoff. Sounds pretty intimidating right?
Well throw in having a thyroid storm mid prep that tosses your body into a continuous catabolic state messing everything up!
Now did that stop her? No!
Did that make her nervous? Uh yeah.
Did she still push through all the craziness her body was causing? Yep sure did!
Know why? SHE WAS DEDICATED.
She finished with a 610 pound total. Needed 605. Done deal.
No amount of motivation can get her in the gym only the DEDICATION to succeed. 
This is what we breed here.
